Early this morning my mentor came in to check out the problem. After what seemed like forever of him trying to find the problem he finally found it. There were screws I was supposed to put in before I put in the motherboard so the motherboard would not touch the case which I did not know was really important. So I had to take the motherboard out and everything connecting it expect the CPU and Heatsink, which is the GPU, the stick of RAM and all the wire plugged in to it which was basically 70% of my work down the drain. After I screwed in the screws for the case motherboard, I had to do everything all over again. The process was a bit faster than last time but still took forever. When I finally plugged in everything, I had everything back where is was the first time I built it, it was time to try the power again. I went to the nearest outlet and plugged in my PC. I turned on the power and pushed the glimmering black button. I was amazed, it worked, the PC was functioning perfectly. All my time researching and planning was all worth it at the end. I felt a big weight on my shoulder drop when it worked since I was close to not finishing.
This project was very enjoyable, I recommend anyone that has a chance to do capstone to do it. You get three weeks off to do something you like and you are really into. This was a great experience and in the end I got a PC. Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTQ5hxVqhBA
Today I get to start building my PC. I wanted to start with my hardest/ most delicate part of the PC. One wrong move and this could cause my entire PC to not function. I started with the motherboard, I placed it on a clean surface. The motherboard is where I place everything on, it is like the base of the PC. I then proceeded to take out my CPU and very genitally played it on the correct component of the motherboard. The CPU is the most delicate part of the PC, even the smallest touch on one of the metal components can easily make it not work properly, but it seemed like I did it perfectly. After that rigorous processed I put the Thermal paste on the plastic parts of the CPU. Quickly after that, I took out my Heatsink and placed it on top of the CPU, the Thermal paste is a paste used for better heat conduction between the CPU and GPU. The Heatsink is used to make sure my CPU does not over heat and in turn break the laptop. The next task was simple all I had to do was pop in the RAM into the correct spot in the motherboard. Everything I had to directly put on the motherboard was finished, now I get to put it in my case and just screw it all in. This first part of the PC took me about an hour and a half to do. I deiced to call it a day and finish the rest tomorrow.
Video of me / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvl8GfsXk8I All my PC parts came in! I was ecstatic after all my planning and budgeting I could finally start to build my PC. I un-boxed everything to see if everything I needed was in the box which it was. After I got my parts I realized I did not have a clear work space. I had to go to the store and buy a cheap table so I could have everything organized, if I lose one part it could be a nightmare for me. After I bought the table and got it set up in my basement I deiced to wait until tomorrow to start. This will most likely take me two days to finish which leaves enough room for everything.
My parts were suppose to come in today but they did not. Hopefully tomorrow they will so I can start building my PC.
I had lunch with my mentor and he said everything I bought would be good for me, so I decided to make the final order. It has been a long process but the fun will begin as soon as I get my parts for this PC and finally begin to build it. It should take about two day because of shipping.
The last part I need to pick out is the Random access memory, also known as the RAM. The Ram allows computers to access files quickly and run multiple processes at once without lagging. This part was really easy to pick out because there was really only one option that had consistent good reviews which was the Kingston Technology 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L. I added this to my cart which was the last item I needed.
Tomorrow I will go to lunch with my mentor to talk about all the parts I have before I make the final order. The games I were gonna play on my PC were not to graphic intense to I did not need a very good SSD but I also did not want something terrible. Looking at my options I can to the conclusion the 120GB of space would be perfect for me. I looked up 120GB SSD on amazon a picked one that was cheap but still had good reviews. I found the Kingston Digital inc. 120GB which seemed perfect.
